The malnutrition rates in Pakistan are alarming, with 40.2% suffering from chronic malnutrition, 28.9% underweight, and 7% having low height for age, as per the star index. The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are crucial for their future success, making it essential to prioritize healthy and nutritious practices during this period. Investment in the well-being and nutrition of children is crucial for developing strong human resources, which play a significant role in driving economic growth in the modern era.

To address undernutrition, the Benazir Income Support Program has established a conditional cash transfer initiative. This program allows families benefiting from other programs to access improved health and nutrition services. The Technical Design Committee, formed by the Board of Benazir Income Support Program, has reviewed and discussed this initiative in the 34th Board Meeting.

Ehsaas Nashonuma Program Purpose

The main objectives of this program are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria Benazir Nashonuma Program

The Benazir Income Support Program aims to prevent chronic malnutrition by providing cash assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers as well as children under two years of age in beneficiary families. Boys receive Rs. 2000 and girls receive Rs. 2500. To receive this financial support, women must undergo regular medical check-ups and participate in awareness sessions on quarterly nutrition and children’s immunizations.

Initially implemented in 14 districts, the program has expanded nationwide due to its successful outcomes.
